In the October edition of Australian Photography + digital magazine we reveal the best beaches and national parks for landscape photography, we show you how to shoot stunning bird and wildlife pictures, look back on 100 years of Leica cameras and much more.

Capturing great images of birds can be tough in open woodlands or fields. But creative photography gets a lot harder in a jungle or rainforest where you have less freedom to move around and carefully compose your shots. Professional bird photographer Greg Basco learned his craft photographing birds in the wilds of Costa Rica and in this issue he shares come clever tips to help you make the most of your next trip to the rainforest.

Still on the subject of animals, Stephen and Ann Toon share their secrets for photographing animals in action. Whether it’s an intimate exchange or explosive motion, animal behaviour makes for great wildlife pictures. And while it can be technically tricky and difficult to pull off, it’s also rewarding when you succeed.

In our Outdoor Photography Special we name the best national parks and beaches in Australia for photography, and share some useful tips for anyone hoping to snare some great landscape images, including some useful gear suggestions. Some are handy for trekking and camping, others for photography, but all of them will make your next trek more enjoyable.

2014 marks the 100-year anniversary of the first Leica camera and we look back on some of the better known images captured with Leica cameras over that period, from Nick Ut's harrowing 'Napalm Girl', which instantly conveyed to the world the terrible consequences of the Vietnam War on the civilian population, to German photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt’s euphoric, “V-J Day in Times Square”, one of the most famous kisses of all time.
