Is travel photography authentic?

Comments Comments

Last month, The Travel Photography Society's annual competition culminated in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, featuring an exhibition of winning images and talks on the craft.

One of the standouts was Etienne Bossot from Pics of Asia's talk, with Bossot questioning the integrity and authenticity of modern travel photography. Defining authenticity, Bossot breaks down success as not merely being Facebook likes, but by being authentic in your representations.

Bossot also highlights the crossover of genres in travel photography and the saturation of travel photographers in the field.

What do you think travel photography should be? Should it be authentic? And does social media really matter in our assessment of what is 'authentic'?

You can see the talk below.
