Fujifilm has launched the third incarnation of its X100 compact cameras, the X100T, with a 16.3-megapixel, APS-C, X-Trans CMOS II sensor, high-speed EXR Processor II image-processing engine and prime 23mm f2 lens.

Available in black or sliver, the X100T is made in Japan and features the X-series' distinctive retro styling with die-cast magnesium top and bottom plates. Key changes introduced with the new model include a redesigned hybrid viewfinder, new controls (including a third-stop aperture ring around the lens) and a new film-simulation mode, 'Classic Chrome'.

While the original X100 introduced the hybrid optical-electronic viewfinder, the system has been taken a step further with the X100T. The new camera allows users to access a digital split-image manual focus system or focus peaking while using the optical viewfinder. 'Real-time parallax correction' has also been introduced for close-up shooting.

Control changes for the X100T include a dedicated aperture ring while the exposure compensation dial has been extended to ±3 stops. The command lever is now a command dial, with the addition of a four-way controller. Each of the seven Fn buttons is customisable, while the rear LCD has been upgraded to a 1.04-million-dot, 3-inch monitor.

Other features include high-speed continuous shooting at 6fps (up to 25 JPEGs in a single burst at full resolution), Full HD video with manual exposure; and built-in WiFi for image sharing and remote control with a smartphone or tablet.

The X100T is expected to be available in Australia in late November 2014. Pricing has not been announced.
