From Bloodstock to Hellfest: Nic Bezzina's amazing music festival photographs

A photography book by Australian photographer Nic Bezzina about music festival crowds will be released this month.

Spanning five countries, and nine unique festivals the project turns the camera away from the bands and captures the emotion of the crowd, that amorphous, vibrating creature with a thousand faces. 

The 180-page book includes around 80 tri-tone black and white images with text by Bezzina and Vice journalist Toby McCasker.

"Music festivals across the world attract hundreds of thousands of people every year," said Bezzina. "It’s a melting pot of characters and styles brought together by their passion for music...just one day can create memories that will last long after the stages are dismantled and the bands move on."

The festivals captured include: Wacken in Germany, Download, Sonisphere and Bloodstock in the UK, Hellfest in France, Primavera Music in Spain and  Big Day Out and Soundwave in Australia.

Based in Sydney, Bezzina is a portrait and fine art photographer with a passion for long-term book projects. He is inspired by fringe cultures, experimentation and story telling. In 2011 he won the Monster Children photography competition and has been a finalist in various photographic awards including Moran Contemporary Photography Prize, PDN Music Moment, and the HeadOn Portrait Prize.
