DJI's Mavic 2 will come in both a pro and zoom version

Any doubts about what exactly was scheduled for announcement at DJI's cancelled July press event have pretty much disappeared, with two new drones being published incorrectly in electronics retailer Argos' latest catalog in the UK.

DJI have also confirmed the validity of the leak and that products are on the way in an interview with CNET.

From the ad it appears we can expect two drones, the Mavic 2 Zoom and Mavic 2 Pro. The Mavic 2 Zoom gets a 2x optical zoom lens, equivalent to 24-48mm, while the 2 Pro gets a one-inch CMOS sensor developed by Hasselblad. DJI is clearly hedging their bets that users will be happy to make a choice of either flexibility or ultimate image quality.

The flying specs look to be getting a subtle but useful boost over the Mavic Pro Platinum. The ad confirms 360-degree collision awareness (DJI call this "omnidirectional obstacle sensing"), a top speed of more than 70km/h, and a 31-minute flight time.

We'd expect 4K video, but interestingly the drone looks like it will also transmit live 1080p video at a distance up to 8km. No pricing information is displayed in the catalog, but the new drones would be expected to retail for a similar price to the Mavic Pro at around $1,200 RRP.

Whether the delay of the announcement was due to the announcement of rival Parrot's Anafi drone we'll never know, but as that drone features a zoom lens it is possible DJI have worked quickly behind the scenes to incorporate the same technology in the new Mavic 2 Zoom.

In a statement to CNET and other tech websites, DJI said "This preprinted catalogue was scheduled before we postponed our 'See the Bigger Picture' event to ensure we can deliver high-quality, cutting-edge technology to our customers according to our standard of innovation,"

"This early look just hints at the many exciting features and capabilities DJI will announce at the proper time. We look forward to giving our fans an incredible drone experience as soon as we can."

Despite confirming the specs of the drone, DJI are yet to reveal any information about when the Mavic 2 Zoom and Pro will be formally announced. We'll keep you posted.
