Canon has announced two new additions to its EF lens range: the new EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM and EF 35mm f/2 IS USM. The extensive EF range, which can be used with full-frame and APS-C sensor EOS cameras, now comprises more than 75 lenses.

The new lenses both offer image stabilisation with a shutter speed improvement of around four stops compared to equivalent unstabilised lenses.

The EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM features a constant maximum aperture of f/4 throughout the entire zoom range and offers macro shooting capabilities at the telephoto end. The lens includes 15 lens elements in 12 groups, including two aspherical and two UD lens elements, to reduce aberrations.

The EF 35mm f/2 IS USM is the successor to Canon’s EF 35mm f/2, and along with built-in stabilisation adds an ultra-sonic motor (USM) for faster and more accurate auto focussing.

The new lenses are expected to be available in Australia in December 2012. Pricing was unavailable at press time.
