Anne Lynam's new exhibition asks viewers to stop and look

A love of film noir has inspired Dublin-born photographer Anne Lynam, and it's also something viewers are invited to explore in her new exhibition opening tomorrow at Aro Gallery.

‘Look’ invites the viewer to stop and savour the work and allow their own imagination to interpret the underlying story. Lynam's style of photography requires the photographer to take time to look and observe and allow visual stories to emerge from the workings of light and shade, so she is hoping to transfer this process of slowing down and taking time across to the viewer.

“By making photographs, I feel an incredible connection to a long line of photographers who were passionate about the medium and helped promote the art of photography," she says.

Moving to Sydney in 1996, Lynam discovered Point Light Gallery. It was here that her love of the art and craft of photography grew. Thanks to the mentorship of the gallery director, photographer and master printer Gordon Undy, Lynam was able to hone the direction for her photography.

Since 2001, Lynam has been exhibiting every two to three years. Previous solo shows have been held at Point Light Gallery in Sydney and Gold Street Gallery in Melbourne, with group shows held in Vermont, USA and Zurich, Switzerland.
