Fujifilm has announced the upcoming launch of the new Fujinon XF23mm F2 R WR compact wide angle lens for its X-series digital camera range.

Fujifilm says the compact Fujinon XF23mm F2 R WR weighs just 180 grams and via the proprietary X-TRANS CMOS sensor, offers a versatile focal length of 35mm (in the 35mm film format).

The lens uses a stepping motor to drive lightweight focusing elements for silent and fast autofocus. When combined with the phase detection AF system on the X-Pro2 and X-T2, Fujifilm claims focus time of just 0.05 seconds.

The XF23mm F2 R WR lens consists of 10 elements in six groups, including two aspherical elements. The lens has a metal exterior, modelled on the design of the XF35mm F2 R WR.

Fujifilm says when using the optical viewfinder on the X-Pro2 and X-Pro1 cameras, mechanical vignetting is eliminated with the XF23mm F2 R WR.

The lens is weather and dust resistant and can operate at temperatures as low as -10°C. Optional accessories include a vented metal hood (LH-XF35-2), which is also compatible with the XF35mmF2 R WR lens.

The recommended retail price for the new Fujinon XF23mm F2 R WR is $699, including GST. It is expected to be available in Australia in late September 2016.
