Ricoh confirms development of GR IV

Ricoh Imaging has announced that it’s developing the GR IV, the next model in its popular GR series of compact cameras.

According to the company, the GR IV will feature a newly developed lens, image sensor, and imaging engine. 

In addition, the camera will also support improved wireless connectivity and work with a new mobile app to help with remote control and image transfers.

Ricoh also shared that it’s working on an additional GR IV variant that will include a Highlight Diffusion Filter (HDF), which changes the way highlights appear in images.

The GR IV will be built around a 25.74MP APS-C sensor and 18.3mm F2.8 lens (28mm equiv.) with a 2EV ND.

In addition, the new model will also get a new lens with seven elements in five groups, 5-axis image stabilisation, 53GB internal storage and a single UHS-I Micro SD card slot, a 3.0" 1.037M dot LCD, and FullHD video at up to 60p.

The company is currently displaying a prototype of the GR IV at its Ricoh GR SPACE locations in Tokyo, Beijing, and Shanghai.

At the same time as the announcement, the company also confirmed that it will discontinue the GR III in July due to difficulties in sourcing parts.

The GR IIIx will continue to be produced for now, and the new replacement is set to launch in 'Autumn 2025'.
