Tamron is set to release a new 24-70mm zoom boasting built-in stabilisation and a fast maximum aperture of f2.8 across the zoom range.

The new lens, which is designed for use with both full-size and APS sensors will be available in mounts to suit Canon and Nikon DSLRs. (A Sony mount will also available but without vibration correction.)

The SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD (Model A007) weighs 825g and houses 17 elements in 12 groups, including three low dispersion (LD) elements, three glass molded aspherical lenses, one hybrid aspherical lens (ASL) and two extra refractive index (XR) elements. Auto focus is powered by Tamron’s proprietary Ultrasonic Silent Drive (USD) for fast subject tracking and quiet operation.

It is expected to go on sale in Australia in late March 2012 with an expected retail price below $1400.
