Leica has launched two new compact cameras to replace its X2, the X-E (Typ 102) and X (typ 113), both of which pair large APS-C sized sensors with prime 35mm (equivalent) lenses.

The Leica X-E uses a Leica Elmarit 24mm f/2.8 ASPH lens, while the X uses a faster Leica Summilux 23mm f/1.7ASPH lens.

Common features include a 16.2-megapixel CMOS sensor, 5 frames per second continuous shooting, and a sensitivity range from 100-12500 ISO.
The metal-body X features front and rear both shells made of magnesium while the top deck and baseplate are made of anodised aluminium. Users can opt to use manual focus via the focusing ring on the lens, and there are a range of options for manual exposure control. ideos are recorded at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels at 30 full frames per second in the MP4 format.

The unique design of the X-E combines a metal-coloured leather trim with a titanium-style finish on the upper and lower parts of the camera body.
The Leica X-E (RRP $2150) and Leica X ($2700) are available now.
