Fujifilm’s first weather-resistant XF zoom lens will join the X Series of interchangeable lenses in July 2014.

Compatible with all Fujifilm X Mount cameras, the XF18-135 F3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR has been designed as the ideal companion product to Fujifilm’s X-T1 to create a portable weatherproof kit.

The lens has weather sealing applied to 20 different areas of the lens barrel for dust and water resistance.

Range includes wide-angle shooting with an intuitive sense of perspective (27mm equivalent), normal view angles (35mm, 40mm 50mm equivalent) and 7.5x zoom telephoto zoom for capturing portrait and sport images (85mm, 135mm 200mm equivalent).

Fujifilm has incorporated high performance glass including four aspherical glass lenses and two ED (extra-low dispersion) glass lenses. Ghosting and flare is minimised by Fujifilm’s HT-EBC (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating), a multilayer coating with high permeability (99.8%) and low reflectance (0.2%) that is applied to all sides of Fujinon lenses.

Fujifilm has developed a new algorithm to improve motion detection in the low-frequency band, with the lens offering stabilisation up to five stops better than an unstabilised lens.

The lens is equipped with fast autofocus speeds of up to 0.10 seconds. When combined with an X-series camera body compatible with phase-detection AF it can capture smooth images with faster autofocus.

The Fujinon XF18-135 F3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR is expected in early July 2014. RRP is $1,199.
