Photokina: GoPro unveils Hero 5
GoPro has announced two updates to its action camera line-up with the release of the Hero 5 Black and the Hero 5 Session.
The Hero 5 Black is GoPro's new flagship model and unlike previous models is waterproof down to 10m without the need for a housing. The updated GoPro has a 1/2.3" sensor capable of shooting 4K video at 30 frames per second or 12MP still images in JPEG or RAW.
Other advancements in the Hero 5 include a 2" touch display and a range of voice controls. There is also a single button to start and stop recording.
Audio records in stereo via three built-in microphones featuring GoPro's advanced wind noise reduction. The camera's electronic video stabilisation has been further improved and the camera comes with a built-in GPS module.
The Hero 5 Black is compatible with all existing GoPro mounts and will be available October 2 for the RRP of $569.95 AUD.
As with the original Hero Session, the updated version comes in the same compact cube form but has been upgraded to offer many of the same features as the Hero 5 Black.
The Hero 5 Session is also waterproof to 10m without a housing and features voice control. It can record 4K video at 30 frames per second and takes still images at slightly lower than the Hero 5 Black at 10MP resolution. RAW format is not supported. The Hero 5 Session will be available October 2 for the RRP of $459.95.
Both cameras can be used with the new GoPro Plus subscription service which uploads content to the cloud and can then be edited and shared from any device. GoPro Plus also gives users access to a music library for editing, discounted accessories and premium support.
