DJI updates Osmo with zoom capability

Comments Comments

DJI has launched an updated version of its popular Osmo handheld gimbal camera stabilisation system.

The new Osmo+ adds an integrated zoom camera to the original Osmo, which has become widely accepted by users for its impressive stabilised 4K video and still photography capabilities.

The Osmo+ camera features a total 7x zoom, with 3.5x optical and 2x digital lossless zoom (only available when shooting at 1080p). The zoom addition gives the Osmo+ a focal length range of 22mm to 77mm without a claimed sacrifice in HD quality. Apertures vary from F2.8 at wide angle to F5.2 at maximum zoom.

DJI says the Osmo+ camera is similar to, but not interchangeable with, the new Zenmuse Z3 zoom camera recently launched for its Inspire 1 drone.

As well as zoom the Osmo+ also features Motion Timelapse which allows users to easily record timelapse imagery by marking start and end points on their smartphone/monitor screens.

Osmo+

The Osmo+ builds on the advanced stabilisation technology introduced with the Osmo and has been optimised for ultimate stability during stills capture.

The Zenmuse Z3 camera shoots 4K/30fps video and 1080p/100fps for slow motion video, with enhanced sound capture through the included FlexiMic. Users can still capture 12 megapixel stills in Adobe DNG RAW.

The Osmo+ is compatible with the DJI GO app. Available mounts and extensions include a tripod, bike mount and an extension rod. The Osmo+ (handle + Zenmuse X3 zoom) is priced at US$649.
