Image Doctor: Opera House After Dupain

Adjustments: perspective correction of both photos in MapInfo for overlay Photographer's Comments: Anthony, after your welcome critique of my Harbour Bridge photo and your comments of overlaying photos, I decided to send these images of the Opera House. I was doing a WEA course on night photography and took this photo before seeing Max Dupin's photo from the same angle. After some warping, I was able to overlay a translucent image of Dupin's photo over mine to show an eerie reflection of history. Especially with the ghost of the engineers appearing to look at the modern version of the building. (PS, I hope it is legal?) |
Image doctor's advice
Hi Steve,
This is a really interesting photo and it is all because you have taken the ordinary and added something to it that is totally out of left field.
Although I do not typically use the work of other photographers in my own photography, it is an accepted technique by many artists. I think the important thing is to credit the other artist, which you have done in this case. Perhaps the other thing you would be advised not to do is to sell the work. Everything is usually ok until you start profitting from another artists work.
About the only thing that I would change with this photograph is the presentation. The white border is attracting too much attention away from the actual dark details within the photograph.
Below is a possible solution!
Cheers for now, Anthony.
