Leica announce minimalist M10-P with quiet shutter and touchscreen

Leica have announced the new Leica M10-P, which offers a quieter shutter, touchscreen functionality and loses the iconic red dot to create what Leica call 'the stealthiest M ever'.

In a first for an M-series camera, the M10-P offers a touchscreen. Users can magnify in live view or double-tap the screen to go to an enlarged view. When viewing images there's also the ability to swipe and pinch-to-zoom.

Leica say that the newly designed shutter is the quietest to ever appear in an M camera — and is “virtually silent to the ear.” PCMAG have compared the M10-P to a number of other cameras on the market in the video below:

Otherwise the M10-P shares many of the same features as the M10: a 24MP CMOS sensor with an ISO range of 100-50,000, 5fps continuous shooting, a 0.73x-magnification viewfinder, a 3" LCD, and WiFi. There's no USB, and no I/O ports.

The Leica M10-P will be available from Leica Store Sydney and authorised dealers from August 2018 for $11,800.00 AUD. The camera is available in black or silver chrome finish.
