A new ultra telephoto zoom lens suitable for sports, nature, and wildlife photographers is being developed by Tamron.

Tamron has announced the development of a new 150-600mm Ultra-Telephoto Zoom Lens for full-frame and APS-C format DSLR cameras. Its SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD (Model A011) uses eBAND Coating and three LD (Low Dispersion) glass elements for high-imaging performance, while the manufacturer says the latest built-in VC (Vibration Compensation) system broadens users’ horizons in achieving sharper handheld photographs.

The eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) Coating is a new nanotechnology-based coating technique developed by Tamron to reduce unwanted reflection.

The sample of the lens was on display at the Tamron booth at the Salon de la Photo 2013 in Paris, which was held in November. Tamron says its previously announced 200-500mm (Model A08), still currently available, is a popular, compact, easy-to-use ultra-telephoto zoom lens, but customers have shown great interest in a lens which provides an even greater focal length range.

Tamron says its new ultra-telephoto zoom lens uses VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilisation, a speedy, precise USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive), eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) Coating which significantly reduces the unwanted light reflections which cause flare and ghosting, and a sophisticated and stylish external finish.

Tamron says the lens' 4x ultra-telephoto zoom capabilities enhance the creative potential of telephoto photography, particularly for nature, wildlife, and sports shooters.

At the time of the announcement a release date and price had yet to be determined.
