Switzerland based manufacturer TH Swiss has announced the release of its Irix 15mm f2.4 lens, available in two variations to suit DSLRs.

The manual focus prime lens features a 'neutrino' coating that according to the maker helps control ghosting, color aberration and flare.

The Irix 15mm f2.4 is designed for full-frame cameras and has a minimum focusing distance of 28cm/11in, with the focus ring providing a 'click' tactile feedback when focused to infinity. The lens is made of 15 elements in 11 groups, with three of the elements having a high refractive index (HRI) and another two feature extra-low dispersion (ED) glass.

With the lens also featuring nine rounded aperture blades, photographers looking for consistent smooth bokeh effects may find it with the new Irix 15mm.

The lens is offered in two varieties: 'Blackstone' and 'Firefly'; both feature weather sealed construction that protects the interior against dust and moisture. The Blackstone features a magnesium and aluminum body, the Irix Firefly 15mm model is, according to TH Swiss, the lightest lens in its class at 608g for the Canon mount and 581g for the Nikon mount.

Both versions of the Irix 15mm f2.4 lens will be available soon in Canon EF, Nikon F and Pentax K mounts.

Pricing of the lens is yet to be announced.
