A big congratulations to Joshua Carr who has won our March ‘Outback’ photo competition with his bird's eve view of a remote outback water pump.

"If you have ever spent time in the outback you will probably know the flatness of the land, and the vast distances you can occasionally see in any direction; one lone tower can often be seen from dozens of kilometres, to serve as a beacon to both man and beast," said this month's guest judge Anthony McKee.

Although there were some great images in this month's Outback competition, from glowing sunsets through to some doco image of cowboys, I gravitated to this image “All tracks lead to water” by Joshua Carr for its stark beauty and subtle story telling. This lone windmill set against a barren landscape typifies much of the country we live in, and although we cannot see man or beast in this photo, we can see this water pump is a regular destination for both.

Simple in its design and yet complex in the message it conveys, Joshua’s image is a deserving winner for this months comp!"
