Australian Photography asked some of this country’s top travel photographers to name their favourite shooting locations. They came up with an eclectic selection of places, techniques – and motivations!

Travel photography is one of the great joys for both professional and amateur shooters. It combines all the technical and ascetic challenges of the craft in one activity, often against a tight deadline. You need to be alert to the possibilities before you, but also technically adept so you can handle your equipment in rapidly changing circumstances. In this feature we asked 12 of Australia’s top travel shooters to tell us about one of their favourite locations – why it attracted them and how they go about shooting it. The results were surprising, and along with a selection of their images from these spots, it offers a fascinating insight into the craft of shooting great travel images.
