What is The Challenge?

The Challenge is a new photo competition designed to test your creativity. Each competition, we’ll ask you to shoot an image that includes a special object.

What is the 'special object' and does it have to be the main focus of my image?

The 'special object' is something we'll specify for each competition. It could be anything – a key, balloon, window, mirror, flower, etc . The special object just has to be visible somewhere in your picture. We'll change the special object for each new competition.

How much does it cost to enter?

It costs $7 per entry.

Can I enter more than one image?

Yes. You can enter as many times as you like.

Where can I enter?

You'll find a link to enter THE CHALLENGE here.

Do I have to shoot something new for The Challenge?

Yes. The idea of this competition is to challenge you to get out there and create something new. Your image must be created specifically for The Challenge.

What are the prizes?

The best image each challenge will win a Canon EOS M3 Kit with 18-55mm IS STM lens and Sandisk Extreme PLUS 32Gb memory card valued at over $1000 from digiDIRECT.

Plus, one runner up and one people’s choice winner will each win a $250 digiDIRECT voucher.

Who will judge The Challenge?

The competition will be judged by a professional photographer.

How is People's Choice decided?

At the end of each challenge we will post the shortlist on our Facebook page. The image with the most 'likes' will win the People's Choice award.

Do I retain the copyright of any images I enter?

Yes. Avoid any competition that asks you to hand over your copyright as a condition of entry.

What is the ideal size for my image entry?

Before uploading your image, we recommend you resize image to the following dimensions:

Horizontal image: 1000 pixels wide
Square image: 1000 pixels wide
Vertical image: 1000 pixels high

I uploaded my image a few hours ago but I can't see it on the site. Why?

Entries must be approved before they appear on australianphotography.com. Images are normally approved each weekday morning. Note: If you upload your image over the weekend it will not be approved until Monday morning.

I uploaded my image a few days ago but I still can't see it on the site. Why?

If your image hasn't appeared after more than one working day, there may be a problem with your entry. The following is a list of the most common problems:

1. The image you tried to upload was too large. While the website will resize images up to a certain size, if it is too large it may be rejected. Your image should ideally be less than 1MB. Ideal size for horizontal images is 1000 pixels wide. The best size for vertical images is 1000 pixels high. Click here for help resizing images.

2. The image you tried to upload was not saved as a JPEG file. The software will not accept your image if it is in TIFF, PSD, BMP, DNG, etc.

3. The filename of the image you tried to upload included one or more unusual characters, eg % $ ( ) @ *, etc.

4. Our website or your internet connection were down when you entered your image. Please try again.

Can I submit an image in any image format, e.g. JPEG, TIFF or PSD?

No, your image must be in JPEG or PNG format. The software will not accept your image if it is in TIFF, PSD, BMP, DNG, etc.

Is there a cut-off date when uploads are no longer accepted?

Images can be uploaded any time before midnight on the final day of the competition.

Do I need to subscribe to AP to enter The Challenge?

No, you do not need to be a subscriber to enter The Challenge.

Is it okay to add a watermark to my image?

We would prefer that you include any copyright information in the EXIF data, rather than on the image itself. Watermarks inevitably diminish the appearance of an image and this will be taken into account in the judging process.
