The big full frame showdown: Nikon D850 vs Canon 5D IV vs Sony a7R III

There's now more choice than ever when it comes to professional-level full-frame cameras, with the big three of Sony, Nikon and Canon all offering compelling options for photographers seeking the very best in both image quality and speeds.

If you're lucky enough to be in the market for a full frame camera and are wondering which is for you, Dan and Sally Watson at Learning Cameras have put together a handy 20-minute comparison video that pits the Sony, Canon, and Nikon's against each other in a series of real-world tests that may just help you make a decision.

Shooting with the Sony a7R IIICanon 5D Mark IV, and Nikon D850, Dan and Sally put the three cameras through a variety of tests that cover skin tones, low light, dynamic range, ergonomics and more.

You'll have to watch the video to find out which is the best, but Dan and Sally do note that although the Sony a7R III gets top marks for usability and shooting moving subjects, the cost of lenses is considerably more than either the Nikon or Canon.

It's the AF that makes a big difference with the Canon and Nikon - with the Canon 5D Mark IV's AF less advanced than the other two and the Nikon D850's AF in liveview struggling to keep up.
