The winners of the largest photo competition in the world have been announced, showcasing the work of photographers from over 66 countries.

Now in its 10th year, the Sony World Photography Award competition attracted a million submissions this year.

The National Awards category, which announces the best image from a participating country, has released its list of winning photographs. Among those is Australian Evan George, who took first place with his image entitled “Vice”.

His first entry into the awards, Mr George’s win follows a relatively new involvement with photography.

“Having only just started seriously pursuing photography, this gives me huge motivation and confidence to keep pushing and developing to a level where I can focus on it professionally.” Mr George said.

“Photography is an outlet to break away from the daily grind. There’s a therapeutic quality to hunting for an image that conveys something interesting.”
