RED set to enter consumer video market
High-end camera maker RED Digital Cinema maybe eyeing a move into the consumer video market, reportedly planning a new range of 8K video cameras that will be "a third of current
prices and a third of current camera sizes". |
The announcement was made by Foxconn chairman Terry Gou who says his company is in talks with RED to form a joint venture to produce the cameras.
Foxconn, which currently derives the majority of its revenue from assembling iPhones and MacBooks for Apple, is looking to reduce its reliance on the Cupertino giant and recently acquired Sharp's semiconductor business, according to a report in the Nikkei Asian Review.
8K ultra-high definition cameras are widely used in digital television and cinematography. Recent films shot on RED cameras include Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, The Martian and Allied.
