TIME magazine has come up with the list of the 50 most influential gadgets of all time and several photography related items have featured prominently.

According to the list published on the TIME website, which features everything from the Sony Walkman to the Segway, products designed to take photographs or shoot video images have been highly influential in our way of life.

Amongst these products are the early 20th century Kodak box Brownie to the current day remote control drones flying our skies. Of the latter, the Phantom from Chinese manufacturer DJI is the world's most popular lightweight quadcopter with photographers and videographers. Its latest model, the Phantom 4, can amazingly avoid obstacles without any human intervention.

In the early 1900s the Kodak Brownie helped bring photography to the masses. This small, brown leatherette and cardboard creation was priced at only $1 and saw cameras taken off tripods and put into everyday use for the first time.

Over 70 years later the instant processing Polaroid OneStep Land camera became a worldwide success and in the decades since has been highlighted as a fine example of 1980s technology and pop culture.

Another influential '80s-era product is the video camcorder which allowed budding film makers and home movie enthusiasts to record video images direct to videotape. The camcorder was superseded in the latter 2000s with the introduction of digital image technology.

Arguably the most influential gadget on the TIME list, the Apple iPhone was released to the world in 2007. Featuring a revolutionary touchscreen and never before seen applications or 'apps', the iPhone soon became viewed as a virtual mobile office. Apple's smartphone has also been largely responsible for the ever growing worldwide popularity of posting photographs and video images online or via social media.

Modern day drones such as the DJI Inspire have made the top 50 list of influential gadgets.
