Photography exhibition turns spotlight on homelessness

Comments Comments

In July and August 2016, Cafe Art Australia handed 95 disposable cameras out to those impacted by homelessness for a week.

To celebrate the amazing images returned with the cameras, the team will be showing the results at the official exhibition launch in Sydney at 3pm on 1 October. There will be stories from each participant - sharing information about their lives and why they took the photographs they did.

The exhibition is part of a platform enabling those impacted by homelessness to engage with the public directly, and about something other than their predicament, namely about their art and about their lives. This both empowers these people to believe in themselves and it improves public awareness of this important issue.

The public vote for favourite images is being conducted during the exhibition and the top 13 images voted on will feature in a calendar for 2017 - there will be a kickstarter project also launching on Saturday 1st October, where people pledge for a calendar featuring the art and stories of participants.
