A Melbourne-based charity organisation is running a photo competition to raise funds to help girls in developing countries go to school.

The Sunflower Foundation's* inspirational photographic competition Now I Can asks entrants to capture the moment when "I wish I could" becomes "Now I Can" for a girl or woman.

The focus is on girls and women because gender equality is the UN global goal for 2030.

The competition was officially launched on October 11 2016, the United Nations’ International Day of the Girl Child. Entries for the competition opened on November 1 and close on 15th January 2017. There are three categories for entries — Professional, Amateur, and Student (under 18).

Prizes are awarded by the judging panel from a pool valued at $6,000, with one prize for each category. There is an additional prize for Most Popular, voted for by the public. All prizes have been donated by sponsors.

There is a small entry fee which contributes towards The Sunflower Foundation’s annual fund raising. A complete copy of the competition Brief, Terms and Conditions, as well as the entry form, are available on the website sunflowerfoundation.ngo/nowican.
