Panasonic's new Lumix DMC-GM5, billed as "the world's smallest interchangeable-lens camera with a Live View Finder", has arived in Australian stores. The impressively small baby GM5 measures 99 x 60 x 36mm and tips the scales at just over 200g – including battery.

The pocketable compact system camera (CSC) is built around a 16-megapixel Micro Four Thirds sensor and is available in black, two-tone red and black, and two-tone green and silver.

The latest model in Panasonic's GM series, DMC-GM5 builds on the DMC-GM1, released in 2013, adding a high-resolution Live View Finder, hot shoe, new button layout and control dial.

The big change for the GM5 is the inclusion of a 1,166,000-dot equivalent LVF (Live View Finder) with approx.0.92x/0.46x (35mm camera equivalent) magnification, and 100% field of view. The Live View Finder also includes a built-in eye sensor that activates autofocusing as soon as you look into the viewfinder. In addition, ‘Touch Pad AF’ allows you to look through the viewfinder and simultaneously use your thumb on the touch screen to set focus points.

Built-in Wi-Fi allows the camera to be connected to a smartphone or tablet to share images or control the camera remotely. Panasonic says focus, aperture, shutter speed and ISO can all be controlled via the connected device.

Other features include Full-HD 1920 x 1080 50p video with stereo sound; 1/16,000s high shutter speed; focus peaking; silent mode; level gauge; and high speed burst shooting at up to 5.8 fps.

The DMC-GM5 is available now. The single-lens kit with a 12-32mm zoom lens retails for $1099. A twin-lens kit, which adds a 35-100mm lens, retails for $1399.
