Olympus has announced the relaunch of its flagship OM-D E-M1 compact system camera with enhanced firmware and a new silver version of the camera body.

Launched in September 2013, key features of the interchangeable-lens OM-D E-M1 include a 16-megapixel MOS Micro Four Thirds sensor, 5-axis image stabilisation, 10fps continuous shooting, tilting 3-inch touchscreen monitor, 2.36-million-dot electronic viewfinder, and weather sealing to make the camera dust, splash and freeze proof to -10°C.

The new firmware (version 2.0), which will be available on September 24, introduces tethered shooting for the first time to an OM-D camera. The upgraded E-M1 can be connected to a computer for direct image transfer, remote camera control, and remote live viewing.

A new digital perspective correction feature, “Keystone Compensation”, enables direct in-camera correction of converging vertical lines as well as perspective-control in architecture, real-estate, studio still-life, and artwork photography.

Live Composite long-exposure shooting mode has been added to help users capture light-painting effects in bright lighting conditions, take fireworks pictures with dark backgrounds and capture star trails in night landscapes.

Other updates include the addition of two new art filters, 'Partial Colour' and 'Vintage', and reduced viewfinder lag to 16ms (from 26ms) to improve performance in high-speed action and sport photography.

Existing OM-D E-M1 owners can upgrade to the new firmware using the Olympus Digital Camera Updater app, automatically installed with the Olympus Viewer application included with every OM-D E-M1. The Silver version of the OM-D E-M1 will go on sale in mid-October 2014.

Olympus has also announced its first pro telephoto zoom lens for the Micro Four Thirds system, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f2.8 PRO. The lens is expected to be available in November 2014 with pricing yet to be announced. Olympus is planning to release two more pro lenses in 2015, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm f2.8 PRO and the Digital ED 300mm f4 PRO.
