Nikon officially working on mirrorless camera

Nikon President Kazuo Ushida grabbed the attention of photographers last week after hinting at his company’s developing of a mirrorless camera.

Whilst it wasn’t exactly confirmed, Ushida’s statement that the company’s desires to “put out a very Nikon-ish mirrorless camera” has created a lot of buzz and discussion on whether they’ll be able to compete with Sony or Fujifilm’s mirrorless range.

Now in a statement to DPReview, Nikon have stated, officially, that they do wish to adapt mirrorless technology and mold it to create a unique Nikon-esque product.

"While details are confidential, we can say that we are currently developing new mirrorless products that build upon Nikon's strengths, and offer the performance prospective customers expect, including the ultimate optics performance, image-processing technologies, strength and durability, and operation."

No other information was released but Nikon is looking to "raise the bar on the market".
