Mirrored, a new exhibition at the Australian Centre of Photography (ACP), is the result of an unlikely collaboration between two street photographers working on opposite sides of the world.

Between 2011 and 2014, Sydney-based Markus Andersen and Istanbul-based Elif Suyabatmaz overcame geographic boundaries to engage in a photographic conversation, responding to each other’s images of daily life in their respective cities.

The exhibition is designed to tell a visual story, bringing together images in both photo-documentary and street photography styles. The images are full of contrast, humour and emotion and paint an intriguing picture of cultural similarities and differences.

The works form part of a cycle of exhibitions that the ACP is running as part of the Head On Festival, which focus on the dialogue between East and West. These exhibitions explore the way in which relationship to place informs the construction of stories, memories and identities.

Mirrored is at the ACP until 7 June 2015. The gallery is located at 257 Oxford St, Paddington, NSW, and operates Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm and on Sundays from 12pm to 5pm.
