Local photographers will feature heavily at the Ballarat International Foto Biennale 2015 Fringe Festival, which begins in two weeks.

The Fringe Festival at the upcoming Ballarat International Foto Biennale will feature a strong line up of local photographers. The BIFB, which opens on August 22 at the western Victorian historic gold-mining city, is a month-long celebration of international and Australian photography.

The BIFB Fringe Program is a chance for photographers of all levels of experience to have their work showcased with some of the best photographers in the world. This year there will be over 25 local Ballarat photographers participating in the Fringe Program.

Locals will include Jeremy Bannister, who will show his photographs from ‘rock ‘n roll’ in the 1980s, when he worked with film, and Aldona Kmiec, a Polish-Australian artist based in Ballarat. She creates photomurals and portraiture of her artistic friends while exploring an inner world of dreams. Over 80 venues throughout Ballarat will host 120 shows from the BIFB Fringe Program. Exciting local and international photographers will display their artwork across various venues throughout the city, including the Ballarat Observatory and the Ballarat Library.

All Fringe artists will be in the running to win one of two prizes, The Fringe Prize and The Designscope Award. The Fringe Prize will give one artist selected by the Creative Director an invitation to submit a proposal for possible inclusion in the BIFB’17 Core Program. The Designscope Award goes to the best and most innovative exhibition. The winner will be awarded a substantial prize of promotional design services valued at $7500 to assist with their career.

Special Fringe Program events will be held at the Fringe Hub, Mr Rede, every Friday to Sunday. The Fringe Hub is a place to relax, have a bite to eat or even a few drinks after a long day of exploring Ballarat and enjoying all the photography the festival has to offer. The BIFB Fringe Program helps to support amateur artists in building their careers.

The Ballarat International Foto Biennale will run at various venues from August 22 to September 20. See www.ballaratfoto.org
