Turkish Delight
Signing up for a guided photo tour can be a great way to improve your photo skills while enjoying a holiday, making new friends and visiting exciting destinations, says Christine Johnston, who recalls a memorable voyage travelling along the Turkish coast.
It all began with the travel section of the newspaper being folded with great flourish and my partner claiming, “Here’s a holiday made especially for us…”
But first some backstory; Colin, a keen sailor, has always nagged me to join him on a sailing holiday, but I prefer visiting art galleries, historical sites and taking photographs – that’s more my thing.
The holiday from the paper had, you guessed it, a sailing focus, but with some very appealing differences – Australia based, Mariner Boating Holidays (www.marinerboating.com), offered 14 nights on board its yachts which would appeal equally to non-sailors.
The package included overnight accommodation, airport transfers and seven exhilarating yacht races each followed by a ‘lay day’. But for me, the selling point was the professional photographer who was there purely to teach and mentor us, while the yachts ‘marina-hopped’ along the Lycian Coast of Turkey. I couldn’t refuse!
