Action camera maker GoPro has unveiled its 2014 lineup, announcing two new 4K-capable cameras, the Hero4 Black and Hero4 Silver.
Both cameras offer improved resolution over their predecessors, with the flagship Hero4 Black delivering 4K video at 30 frames per second (fps), 2.7K video at 50fps and 1080p video at 120fps.

The cheaper Hero4 Silver reduces 4K video recording to 15 frames per second, 2.7K video to 30 frames per second, and 1080p to 60 frames per second. The camera also has a built-in touchscreen display, a feature the Hero 4 Black lacks.

In stills mode both cameras can capture 12-megapixel burst photos at a rate of 30 frames per second or, in time lapse mode, at intervals from 0.5 to 60 seconds. A redesigned audio system is said to offer twice the dynamic range of previous models.

Like previous models, including the GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition, both models offer camera control and image sharing via Wi-Fi from a connected smartphone or tablet. Both 2014 models add the option to connect via Bluetooth as well.

The HERO4 Black will retail for $639 while Hero4 Silver will retail for US$509. Both cameras are expected to be available from October 5.
