Fujifilm says its new XF 10-24mm wide-angle lens is ideal for both landscape images and detailed interior shots.

Fujifilm says its new Fujinon XF10-24mm f/4 R OIS lens is an ultra-wide to standard zoom designed for shooting dynamic, high-impact landscape images as well as interiors. Compatible with all Fujifilm X Mount compact system cameras, the Fujinon XF 10-24mmF4 R OIS is a 2.4x zoom equivalent to 15-36mm in 35mm format. It enables maximum foreground and distance detail for shooting high-quality landscapes.

The manufacturer says the Fujinon XF 10-24mm can also be used for shooting interiors, making small rooms look more impressive. With the maximum f/4 aperture throughout the zoom range, handheld shooting is also possible - even in low-light conditions.

The Fujinon XF 10-24mm has a newly designed optical system with four precision-built aspherical lenses and three low-dispersion glass lenses which help maximise the X-Trans sensor performance, and it has a powerful Optical Image Stabilisation function. Ghosting is minimised by Fujifilm’s unique HT-EBC (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating), a multilayer coating applied to all sides of Fujinon lenses. The XF 10-24mm also has an additional newly developed coating on the reverse side of the front lens to further reduce ghosting, which typically occurs when using deep concave lenses. When the XF 10-24mm lens is attached to a body which supports the Lens Modulation Optimiser, image quality improves significantly due to its enhanced resolving power at all apertures.

The lens has a seven-blade aperture diaphragm which helps create smooth and round bokeh effects. It has the ability to shoot at an aperture of f/4 from the ultra-wide 15mm focal lens length to its longest at 36mm.

With macro photography, a minimum working distance of 24cm allows photographers to capture both small foreground detail and the wider surroundings. High speed AF is achieved with an inner focusing system, which drives smaller lenses in the middle or rear lens groups without moving the larger lenses in the front lens groups. The XF10-24mm f/4 R OIS lens is also very quiet to use due to its light-weight internal lenses and the addition of a stepping motor. Fujiflm says that with its precision-made, responsive, finely tuned metal aperture and focus rings, the XF 10-24mm lens provides a great handling experience.

Fujifilm Australia Product Manager of Consumer Products, Melissa Butcher, said the addition of the  XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS lens means Fujifilm’s X mount series now covers focal length options from 15mm to 350mm (in 35mm equivalent).

The price for the new Fujinon XF10-24mmF4 R OIS lens was yet to be advised. It’s expected to be available in March 2014.
