Z Camera, a China-based camera startup, has unveiled its plans to manufacture the E1, a GoPro competitor that is compatible with  Micro Four Thirds lenses and other accessories.

The E1 launched on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter with a funding goal of $42,000 but has raised over $200,000 with almost three weeks to go.

Similar in concept to Olympus' Air A01, the E1 is a pared down camera body that uses a smartphone or tablet, connected via WiFi, to compose and review images, and operate the camera.

The camera is built around a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor and can shoot RAW and JPEG stills as well as video at 4K (4096x2160/24p) and Ultra HD (3840x2160/30p) resolution. The manufacturers describe the camera as, "the smallest 4K ultra-high definition camera with an interchangeable lens system."

Top ISO is 102,400, and the company says users can expect good image quality up to 6400 ISO with the E1's proprietary noise filtering.

The E1 will retail for US$699 (body only), and is expected to begin shipping to Kickstarter supporters from November 2015.
