Black Eye Gallery: The Russian Nude

A new exhibition of colour and black-and-white nudes by Russian photographer Arkadiy Kozlovskiy will open in Sydney later this month.

Sydney's Black Eye Gallery will be home to a new exhibition of nude photographs by Russian photographer Arkadiy Kozlovskiy (1964-2014) from 28 March to 16 April 2017.

Images from The Russian Nude were selected from a vast archive of Kozlovskiy images and is the first time the photographer's work has been shown in a single solo show.

Shot between 2010 and 2014, the exhibition comprises colour and black-and-white photographs, some taken in a studio and many on location.

Kozlovskiy began photographing nudes in 2010. In September 2013 he was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer and passed away in November 2014.

The exhibition came about when the photographer's two children, Slava and Maria – both of whom live in Australia – inherited their father's extensive archive. Arkadiy requested two things of his children: that they preserve and exhibit his work and they find a way to support and promote research in preventing and fighting cancer. Now they are honouring their father by doing both, with a percentage from sales donated to cancer research organisation, The Unicorn Foundation.

The Russian Nude by Arkadiy Kozlovskiy will be at The Black Eye Gallery from 28 March to 16 April 2017. Opening night is Thursday March 30, 6-8pm.
