Documentary photographer Ben McGee’s exhibition Crowning Miss Nude Australia will open soon in Adelaide.

Emerging documentary photographer Ben McGee opens his provocative new photographic exhibition 'Crowning Miss Nude Australia 2015' at the Burnside Ballroom April in Adelaide on April 24.

In August last year McGee was invited by The Crazy Horse Revue to photograph the Miss Nude Australia pageant. McGee’s curiosity and regard for his subjects led to him gaining access from management on the night to backstage areas and the change rooms. McGee says the “showbiz”, beauty and eroticism was one part of the story, but it was ultimately about photographing the relationships between the dancers and their audience. These are some of McGee’s most interesting observations as potential rivalries give way to bonding.

McGee turned to documentary photography after studying geology. He returned to a childhood interest in photography, and whilst he started shooting landscapes he soon began to connect with people. McGee travelled to Brazil to document the locals, producing a book titled ‘Brazil: Joining Fragments’ before he returned to Australia.

The Adelaide leg of McGee’s exhibition coincides with the premiere season of MADAME: The Story of Joseph Farrugia, a new performance work based on the life and times of adult entertainment trailblazer Joseph Farrugia aka ‘Madame Josephine’, long-time creative director and host of famous Adelaide strip club Crazy Horse Revue/Madame Josephine’s.

Images for McGee’s exhibition have been selected from a full series which will be offered as a limited edition artist’s book available at the ball room.

After showing in Adelaide, the exhibition will travel to Sydney as part of the Head On Photo Festival, opening May 5 at Tap Gallery in Darlinghurst, Sydney. 'Crowning Miss Nude Australia 2015' will show at the Burnside Ballroom, 401 Greenhill Road, Tusmore, SA, from Friday, April 24,between 5pm and 7pm sharp (MADAME  begins at 8pm).
