The Moran Arts Foundation today announced 150 semi-finalists in its annual Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize.

The 150 images were selected from more than 2,700 entries interpreting the theme 'Contemporary Life in Australia'.

"This year’s entries…demonstrate the high level of excellence in visual communication and the diversity of imagination contained within the Australian community”, said Australian photographer and co-judge, William Long. “Photography is now such an everyday part of our lives, and that has been clearly demonstrated by the wide variety of entries. Judging the entries has been a privilege and an exciting insight into contemporary Australian life."

Thirty of the Moran Contemporary Prize semi-finalist works will be selected as finalists and will be displayed as part of the Moran Art Prizes exhibition, which will open to the public free of charge from October 29, 2014 to February 15, 2015 at Juniper Hall, Paddington, Sydney. The winners of the 2014 Moran Prizes will be announced on October 28, 2014.

Established in 2007, the Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize awards the winner $50,000 plus $1,000 to each of the 30 finalists and also recognizes the next generation of Australian photographers with cash prizes for secondary school students and their schools, and gifts for primary school finalists.
