Sony announces 18-110mm f/4 pro cinema lens

Sony has announced a new lens designed specifically for professional movie shooters, the E PZ 18-110mm F4 G OSS. The Super 35mm/APS-C format lens offers a 35mm-equivalent zoom range of 27-165mm. 

The lens is dust and moisture resistant and consists of 18 elements in 15 groups, with six aspherical elements and three Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements. It is the second lens in the range to include Smooth Motion Optics (SMO) which Sony says eliminates focus breathing (shifts in angle of view during focusing); focus shift (small shifts in focus that can occur while zooming ); and axial shift (axial image shifts while zooming).

The lens features built in Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation and includes separate focus, iris and zoom rings. Both servo and manual mechanical zoom are supported and the zoom ring direction is switchable to match user preferences. The lens length remains constant, making it easy to use with matte boxes and other lens accessories. The lens also has a 0.8mm pitch focus gear built onto the lens which is compatibile with standard focusing accessories.

The E PZ 18-110mm F4 G OSS power zoom will be available in Australia from December 2016 for SRP $5,699.
