Huawei announces new monster-sensor smartphone

Huawei Australia has announced details of its new Mate 9 Android smartphone which features a second generation Leica dual-lens camera with 2x hybrid zoom.

According to Huawei, the Mate 9's camera features a 12-megapixel RGB sensor and a 20 megapixel monochrome sensor that work together supported by image fusion algorithms.

The camera's wide aperture effect delivers claimed "best shallow depth of field in the market" while pixel binning technology works with optical image stabilisation for impressive low light shooting performance.

The Huawei Mate 9 also features 4K video capability, a 5-axis stabiliser and a 720p slow motion mode that shoots at 240fps.

The smartphone features a Kirin 960 chipset for faster computing operations while innovative, EMUI 5.0 is designed to adapt to usage behaviours to optimise performance. Huawei says CPU performance on the Mate 9 is improved by 18 per cent and GPU performance is up a claimed 180 per cent.

The Huawei Mate 9 also supports faster communication rates and better network signal connectivity up to 600mbps and combines a 4000 mAh high-density battery and SuperCharge technology for long battery life.

The Huawei Mate 9 will launch in the first quarter of 2017.
