First look: DJI Osmo mobile

We loved the silky smooth 4K video and rock-solid three-axis image stabilisation of the original DJI Osmo handheld gimbal when we checked it out earlier this year. It's a bit of a niche product to be sure, but we reckon for run-and-gun film crews it would make a great backup rig to a large video camera. The only weaknesses were a short battery life and a particularly long start-up process, which we understand has been addressed somewhat by firmware updates over the last few months.

When we heard in September that DJI was to release a simplified and mobile-only gimbal called the DJI Osmo mobile, we knew we had to get one into the AP offices for a closer look. On paper, it appears to be a cut-down Osmo for the selfie-generation. But does ditching the onboard camera for your smartphone improve on the original? Watch our first impressions video to hear our thoughts.
