Synology has introduced a new network-attached storage (NAS) device - a four-bay case that accepts 2.5in drives with a maximum capacity of 20TB.

Designed to be portable, the enclosure is 120x105x142mm and weighs 660g without drives. Synology says the drive is light on power use, consuming only 20 watts during data access and 7 watts during HDD hibernation.

The DS419Slim has dual 1GbE LAN ports allow for failover and Link Aggregation. Inside is a Marvell Armada 385 dual core 1.33GHz CPU and 512MB of DDR3L RAM.

As there are four bays, the hot-swappable drives can be configured in Basic, JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6 and RAID 10, as well as Synology’s own Hybrid RAID.

Synology’s DiskStation Manager runs the device and offers over a hundred specialist apps that can be downloaded and used to manage specific tasks.

The Synology DS419SLIM will be available at the end of July and has an RRP of AU$507. For more information see the Synology website.
