Sony announces 600mm f/4 GM OSS and 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS lenses

Sony have announced two new telephoto lenses aimed at sports and wildlife photographers.

Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS

The 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 is Sony’s farthest reaching E-mount zoom, and according to Sony, utilises many of their most advanced lens designing technologies.

Inside are 24 elements in 17 groups including one aspherical element and five ED elements. 11 aperture blades will also help produce clean out of focus areas, and the lens is coated with Sony’s Nano AR coating to suppress unwanted reflections, glare or ghosting.

Optically stabilised, the lens is 111.5 by 318 millimeters and weighs in at 2,115 grams without the removable tripod foot installed.The 200-600mm is also compatible with Sony's 1.4x and 2x teleconverters.

The FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS will be available locally from August 2019. Local pricing has not been confirmed, but in the US it will have an RRP of $1,997.99 ($2,870 AUD).

Sony FE 600mm f/4 G Master OSS

Sony’s longest reaching prime lens, the new 600mm weighs approximately 3040g, which should make it the lightest full frame 600mm on the market. By comparison, the Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS III is the same weight and the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4E FL ED VR lens weighs 3.8kg.

Measuring in at 163.6 by 449mm, the 600mm f/4 features 24 elements in 18 groups, including one XA element, two ED elements, and three fluorite elements. The lens is also dust and moisture resistant, and its front element is coated with fluorine to resist dirt and fingerprints.

"The new 600mm F4 raises the bar for speed, mobility and control in a super-telephoto prime lens,” said Jun Yoon, Head of Digital Imaging, ANZ.

The FE 600mm f/4 GM OSS will also begin shipping in August 2019. Like the 200-600mm, local pricing has not been confirmed, but in the US it will have an RRP of $12,997.99 ($18,680 AUD).
