Olympus announce PEN E-PL9

Comments Comments

Olympus have announced their newest PEN, the E-PL9. The new compact has a more pronounced grip and larger mode dial than the E-PL8 and now offers a built-in flash.

Inside is a 16-megapixel Four Thirds CMOS sensor and the same TruePic VIII processor as found in the E-M10 Mark III. Those hoping for a compact E-M10 may be disapointed as the E-PL9 doesn't come with the same 5-axis body stabilisation as the Olympus flagship; it has three axes instead. However both cameras offer the same 121-point contrast-detect AF system with face and eye detection.

4K video is included (at 30p), and you can also shoot Full HD footage at up to 60fps. As you might expect, there's the usual connectivity options including Bluetooth and WiFi to provide a permanent connection to your smartphone or tablet, which is done via the OI.Share app.

The E-PL9 will be kitted with the 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 'EZ' power zoom lens. Available colors include black, brown and white. Australian pricing has not been confirmed but it's priced at £579.99 body-only and £649.99 with the 14-42mm kit lens in the UK.
