Irix has announced details of a new extreme wide-angle lens that will be available in mounts for Canon, Nikon and Pentax full-frame DSLR cameras.

The Swiss-designed, Korean-made lens is the second lens in the Irix lineup, joining the company's 15mm F2.4, which was released last year. Like it's predecessor, the wider 11mm model will come in two editions, the lightweight, poycarbonate Firefly, and the heavier, aluminum-magnesium-alloy Blackstone.

The lens delivers a 126° angle of view and comprises four high-refractive lenses, two ED lenses and three aspherical lenses. Irix claims this configuration of internal lenses produces, "extremely low curvilinear distortion on a full-frame sensor".
While the lens is manual focus, electrical contacts on the lens allow users to adjust the aperture from the camera body and for aperture values to be recorded in EXIF data.

The more expensive Blackstone lens also features engraved flourescent markings which are visible in the dark. Both lenses are dust and weather resistant.

While no release date has been announced the Blackstone is listed on the Irix website for US$825 and the Firefly for US$595.
