Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM to hit stores in June

Comments Comments

Earlier this year, Canon announced six new upcoming lenses for RF Mount. At the time there was no word on when the new lenses were going to be launched, but Canon Australia has now confirmed the first of these, the Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM, will be out locally in June.

A popular focal length with portrait photographers, the RF 85mm f/1.2L USM promises beautiful bokeh in de-focused areas, and will be the company's second lens to feature Canon's Blue Spectrum Refractive (BR) Optics, designed to help manage chromatic aberration.

There's 13 elements in 9 groups, and Canon has also included its Air Sphere Coating (ASC), which helps to minimise lens flare and ghosting. The lens has a minimum focus distance of 85cm.

Finally there's also a lens control ring on the front of the RF 85mm f/1.2L USM lens allowing for customisable control over aperture, shutter speed, ISO or exposure compensation.

Canon says a further five lenses are in development and planned for release in 2019, taking the total number of RF lenses available to 10 by year-end:

  •          RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM
  •          RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM
  •          RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM
  •          RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM
  •          RF 85mm f/1.2L USM DS, with Defocus Smoothing coating

No pricing details have been confirmed yet, but in the meantime, you can find out more at Canon.
